"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
In the past when I have read this scripture, I always imagined Jesus being yoked beside me. That instead of carrying my own yoke, Jesus and I were yoked together. Yet recently, when I read this scripture again, I realized that Jesus said, "take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, ..." He didn't say, be yoked with Me or beside Me. This gave me a new perspective.
Many times, we have our own yokes; leading, guiding, stressing, sometimes demanding from us. Being yoked to something reminds me that we are not in the driver's seat. We are the one's being driven. When Jesus tells us to take His yoke upon us, He is telling us, let Me be the driver in your life and in your world. His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
Interesting enough, when He is the driver we find rest for our souls. Jesus knows exactly what we need, when we need it and how to obtain it. Yes, taking the yoke of Jesus does require us to understand Him and learn from Him. Praying you can take the time to do so. He will bring you rest for your soul. Be blessed...
